About the GBC

ENTRY POINT FOR GERMAN BUSINESSES TO CAMBODIA

The GBC (German Business in Cambodia, previously Arbeitskreis Deutsche Wirtschaft) was created in 2001 as a platform for German businesses in Cambodia, and for information exchange between members and local and international businesses who seek to operate in Cambodia. Companies considering doing business in the Kingdom benefit from the GBC’s excellent network in Cambodia, deep understanding and enormous wealth of insight into the market.

The GBC supports the foreign investment policy of the Royal Cambodian Government and cooperates closely with all relevant government institutions. We offer support to German businesses investigating market opportunities, provide sectorial and market studies, guide delegations visiting Cambodia via our own as well as via Eurocham Cambodia’s network.

GBC AND EUROCHAM CAMBODIA

In 2011, the GBC has co-initiated the process to create EuroCham Cambodia, and in 2013 voted to become the first national chapter to be established within the organization. The integration into a larger European business network offers an outstanding opportunity to our members and German companies to access a wide range of professional business services, to participate in advocacy via relevant sectorial committees and direct government interaction, and to access market information that is continuously compiled and updated.

The majority of business-related activities such as advocacy, outreach to European investors and professional services to companies have been trusted to Eurocham Cambodia while the GBC remains a primary resource for German business networking opportunities.

GBC AND THE GIZ AGENCY FOR BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The GIZ Agency for Business and Economic Development, formerly known as Business Scouts for Development Programme and Global Business Network Programme (GBN), promotes the responsible involvement of local and German companies through its Business Scouts in Cambodia and other countries. Hosted by the GBC in Cambodia and closely working with the GBC since 2018, the programme is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close cooperation with the network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK) under the umbrella of the Partners in Transformation Business & Development Network.

ACTIVITIES

The GBC provides a platform for its members to exchange expertise on Cambodia. Our members meet with government representatives in exclusive settings, meet international business leaders as well as German investors and introduce visiting German business delegations to the German, local and international business community as well as to government representatives relevant to their interests.

The GBC supports selected initiatives by the Royal Cambodian Government, in particular in the education & vocational training sector, and cooperates with other business chambers in further developing adequate support structures in related areas.
