Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM)

CIM is jointly run by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the German Federal Employment Agency. It has been providing a combination of development and labour market policy expertise since 1980.

The Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM)

  • sources and places European experts – and other experts from outside Europe who have settled in Germany – in developing countries and emerging economies;
  • offers a network for those who have migrated to Germany and who wish to support development in their country of origin;
  • advises individuals and policy-makers on migration issues.

The main client is the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). They also receive commissions from other German federal ministries, international organizations and the European Union.

Senior Expert Service (SES)

The SES is Germany’s leading volunteering organization for experts and executives who are either retired or taking some time off work. The SES has been helping people to help themselves since 1983 – all around the world, in every industry and sector.

At present, the SES has access to the knowledge and experience of over 12,000 experts from all professional spheres.

The main beneficiaries of the SES network’s expertise are small and medium-sized businesses, public authorities, professional and business associations, social and medical facilities, and institutions which provide basic education or vocational training. In Germany, there is a special focus on supporting the development of young people at school or in training. The SES is based in Bonn.

The SES primarily receives funding from:

  • The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
  • The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)

Alumniportal Germany

The Alumniportal Deutschland offers access to international experts who have studied or worked in Germany.

The portal facilitates contacts to companies and organisations, promotes individual career development and durable links with Germany, promotes and exchanges skills and knowledge, and opens new cooperation options. The portal currently has more than 100,000 members.
